Senior Software Developer (1 open position)

Job Description:

So, rather than list 27 skills we want you to have and the number of months and years of experience we want you to have in those skills, we're going to try a different approach. We're going to tell you what we think it's like to work at ToolBox Solutions. We're going to tell you what we expect and what we value and then leave it to you to look within and reply if you think you have what it takes to become one of us.

A few logistics to cover before you get to the meat of the job posting to help you decide if this is the right move for you:

1. Location. We have two locations and are open to you working out of either one. Our head office is located at Airport and Steeles. We have a development only shop in Thornton, Ontario which is just south of Barrie at the corner of Highway #27 and Innisfil Beach Road.

2. Compensation. We pay very fairly and believe that if you want the best then you have to pay appropriately. In addition to the base salary there is a 10% bonus, benefits and paid certifications.

3. Opportunity for advancement. Definitely. We expect it. It is very much a learning environment. We push Microsoft and web technologies to the limit and have a team comprised of the best of the best. We want you to push yourself to get better and succeed and move your career along. We recognize that if you aren't growing then you are likely to go elsewhere. Our people just don't go elsewhere. Our attrition rates are virtually non-existent and it's because it's a great place to be personally and professionally.

What We Value

1. We value people who LOVE technology. You should have a passion for software development and love what you do. You are the kind of person that codes in your spare time for fun. You love the challenge that it represents and feels a real sense of accomplishment when you have figured out something or completed a task.

2. We value people who love to learn. We'll pay for your certification exams and books and whatever else because we value education and all that comes as a result of it. You should ke the kind of person who always wants to get better, always looking to improve your skills and looking to the horizon for emerging trends.

3. We value people who are team players. All company's say it. Some company's mean it. We live and breathe it. The team is the core of what we do. We are an agile shop that has deployed SCRUM as it's agile methodology. If you are a lone wolf, if you don't share well or play in the sandbox well with others, don't apply here.

What We Expect

1. We expect that you have a great skill set in C#, ASP.NET and SQL Server. Knowledge of jquery, javascript and ajax are all really good to have but not essential. You'll just have to want to learn those things.

2. We expect that you have a lot of experience doing web development

3. We expect that you like to share knowledge because everyone else on the team does

4. We expect that you have very good communication skills

What It's Like At ToolBox Solutions

ToolBox Solutions is an awesome place to work as a software engineer! We are a Microsoft shop and use leading edge tools in everything that we do. We are committed to the agile process and while we all work hard, it's not a sweat shop. We believe the path to excellence lies in repeatable patterns, great frameworks and reusable components. Why redo everything from scratch every time? We are committed to Software Engineering best practices and are in a constant state of evolution.

You know how every company says "we work hard but we play hard too"? I would challenge them on that. Ask them "how exactly do you play hard?". We actually DO play hard. We get together as a team a lot and as a whole company. We do three out of town companywide overnight offsite events a year. And we party like rock stars. Okay, wannabe rock stars.

We believe that we have the best team of software engineers ever assembled. We started from scratch and built a team that has been tested and proven. It's that that the team is just incredibly talented, it's also that they are a fantastic group of men and women personally.

So, what is it like being a ToolBox'er? Wicked.
